Programme of Activities

La Catedral de Toledo ha sido, desde su origen, un templo sonoro. En sus bóvedas resonaron las polifonías de los canónigos medievales, los cantos del Renacimiento y las composiciones de maestros que convirtieron la liturgia en arte. Por eso, la música será una de las columnas del VIII Centenario.

La programación musical recorrerá el año jubilar como una gran sinfonía: desde el Concierto de Campanas que hará vibrar los cielos de Toledo hasta las grandes producciones del Teatro Real, que devolverán al templo obras como el Réquiem de Mozart, el de Verdi o la Novena Sinfonía de Beethoven.

Durante la Cuaresma, se recuperarán los Misereres y el Officium Defunctorum conservados en el archivo catedralicio, junto con la presentación de la reconstruida Lyra Coeli, instrumento del siglo XVII vinculado a la tradición musical toledana.

Las Batallas de Órganos alcanzarán una nueva dimensión con la restauración de los órganos realejos y los carillones del coro, auténticos tesoros del patrimonio histórico-musical. Y, mirando al futuro, nacerá la Joven Orquesta de la Catedral, una escuela de jóvenes intérpretes llamada a mantener viva la tradición musical de este templo que ha sido, y seguirá siendo, el gran escenario del alma.

Toledo will host the annual meeting of representatives of the Cathedral and Collegiate Chapters of Spain, a key gathering for reflection and the exchange of experiences concerning the life, governance, and mission of cathedrals.

Procession of the Crystal Rosary

On the night of 29 May, the pieces of the Crystal Rosary, preserved in the Primate Cathedral and recently restored thanks to the Framework Agreement signed with the City Council of Toledo, will take to the streets of Toledo. In a beautiful candlelit procession, the route will mirror that which, on the following morning, Our Lady of the Virgin of the Tabernacle will follow during the procession commemorating the Centenary of her Canonical Coronation.

Centenary of the Canonical Coronation of the Virgin of the Tabernacle

On the occasion of the first centenary of the canonical coronation of the Virgin of the Tabernacle, Patroness of Toledo and its Archdiocese, the Cathedral will celebrate a solemn liturgical commemoration. The day will include the celebration of the Eucharist in the Primate Cathedral, followed by a procession led by the image of the Virgin to Plaza de Zocodover, recalling the historic and widely attended coronation held in 1926 at the heart of the city.

Mariological Congress, 75th Mariological Week. The Virgin Mary and the Church: Communion and Mission

The Cathedral of Toledo will host the Week of the Spanish Mariological Society, bringing together national and international specialists in Mariology. Over the course of these days, academic and pastoral perspectives will address issues related to theology, spirituality, liturgy, and Marian devotion, reinforcing the Cathedral’s role as a space for theological reflection and dialogue between faith, tradition, and contemporary scholarship.

Revival of the Marian Brotherhood of the Cathedral

Throughout 2026, within the framework of the Eighth Centenary, efforts will be made to revive the historic Marian Brotherhood of the Cathedral, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception and founded by Cardinal Cisneros. This initiative seeks to revitalise an ancient expression of cathedral piety, integrating it into contemporary liturgical and devotional life and strengthening the historical continuity of Marian traditions linked to the Primate See of Spain.

Octave of the Virgin of the Tabernacle

The traditional Octave in honour of the Virgin of the Tabernacle will take on special significance in 2026 as part of the Centenary celebrations. At the conclusion of these days of worship and devotion, one of the institutional commemorative items of the Eighth Centenary will be presented: a reproduction of the first stone of the Gothic Cathedral, evoking the foundational gesture of Saint Ferdinand III of Castile and Archbishop Rodrigo Jiménez de Rada.

Meeting of the European Association of Cathedral Conservators

Professionals responsible for the conservation and restoration of cathedrals from across Europe will gather in Toledo to share experiences, criteria, and challenges related to the preservation of cathedral heritage. This meeting underscores the commitment of the Cathedral of Toledo to safeguarding historical and artistic legacy, as well as its role as an international benchmark in the protection and transmission of cultural and religious heritage.

World Day of the Poor

The Primate Cathedral will celebrate the World Day of the Poor in collaboration with Cáritas and various ecclesial institutions. The day will begin with the celebration of Holy Mass at the high altar, followed by a fraternal lunch in the Lower Cloister and a specially designed tourist-catechetical visit, thereby reaffirming the Cathedral’s social and pastoral commitment within the framework of the Eighth Centenary.

The Queen’s Balcony

Throughout the Eighth Centenary, the Primate Cathedral hosts this permanent project, conceived as a cycle of thematic lectures held in the Upper Cloister—an exceptional setting offering striking views of the Tower and the illuminated cathedral complex. Under the title “The Queen’s Balcony”, this forum for reflection and dialogue will explore, from multiple perspectives, the many dimensions of the Cathedral of Toledo—historical, artistic, social, and cultural—delving into its significance and its role across the centuries.
